Almost everybody knows about Facebook pages or Twitter accounts, but do you know about Pinterest (think “pin+interest”)? According to Comscore, it’s the third fastest growing site on the web.
Pinterest is a social media site that allows users to “pin” or post pictures to their own personal “pin board” or “wall.” It is an online bulletin board for people to save and share items of interest arranged by pictures. In the end, it is just pictures that link back to websites. The images users select range from wedding cakes to clothing to cars (just to name a few).
But how does a savvy marketer take advantage of this new social media outlet?
Pinterest is a website that is predominantly used by females. Seventy percent of “pinners” are females with an average household income of $100,000.
Pinterest is a way to drive traffic to your website and generate sales. It’s not a perfect fit for every company, but if it fits your target market, it can make a big difference.
For example, Pinterest would be great for a jewelry store, allowing the store to post images of their selection with links back to their site for purchase. On the other hand, Pinterest would be far from ideal for a law firm dealing with wills and trusts. It all depends on whom you’re selling to.
